Ask the Stationer: Should I Put Registry Info on My Wedding Invitations?

Bride’s Question:
“We’re finishing up the details for our wedding invitations and aren’t sure where to list our registries. Can we include that on the invitation itself, or maybe add an insert card with our registry details? We want to make sure guests know where we’re registered so we receive items we actually need.”
Answer:
This is one of the most common questions we hear from couples while designing their wedding invitations — and it’s a great one.
According to traditional (and still widely respected) wedding etiquette, registry information should not be included on the wedding invitation or on any insert cards inside the invitation suite.
While it may seem practical, mentioning gifts directly can unintentionally make guests feel that a present is expected. Wedding invitations are meant to focus on celebrating your marriage and inviting loved ones to share in the day — not on gift-giving.
The good news? There are several perfectly acceptable and widely used ways to share your registry details without including them in the invitation itself.
Where to Share Registry Information Instead
Your Wedding Website
This is the most popular and appropriate place to list registry details. You can include your website URL on an enclosure card within the invitation suite, and guests will naturally find your registry there along with travel info, schedules, and other helpful details.
Bridal Shower Invitations
Shower hosts typically include registry information with shower invitations, which is considered completely appropriate and expected.

Word of Mouth
Family members, close friends, and the wedding party are often asked where a couple is registered. Sharing that information with them helps it circulate naturally.

Retail Registry Cards
Many stores provide small registry announcement cards once you sign up. While you shouldn't include these with your invitations, you can absolutely include them in your bridal shower and bachelorette invitations!

A Gentle Reminder
Even in modern weddings, etiquette still leans toward making guests feel that their presence is what matters most. Keeping registry details off the invitation helps maintain that tone while still allowing guests to easily find gift information through the right channels.
And don’t worry — guests who want to give a gift will absolutely find your registry.
Final Thought
If you're unsure what to include in your invitation suite, you’re not alone. Questions like this come up often, and we’re always happy to guide couples through the etiquette side of wedding stationery.
