If you’re planning a wedding in Indianapolis for Fall 2026, you’re probably dreaming about color palettes already. Fall brings such a rich range of colors — from warm harvest shades to deep jewel hues — it’s no wonder Fall is one of the most popular wedding seasons in the Midwest. However, choosing your wedding colors isn’t just about flowers, bridesmaids' dresses, and décor. Your stationery is the very first place your wedding colors come to life.

As a custom Indianapolis wedding stationer, I’ve seen firsthand how the right invitation suite sets the tone for the entire celebration. Let’s explore some of the most elegant and timeless Fall color palettes — and how they translate beautifully into wedding invitations, menus, and all the wedding day paper details to make your event unforgettable.

1. Classic Autumn Neutrals: Ivory, Taupe, and Gold

For couples who love the elegance of tradition, a neutral palette with warm undertones is a timeless choice. Imagine soft ivory paired with taupe and accented by metallic gold. This palette feels formal, classic, and endlessly chic.

Stationery Inspiration: Letterpress invitations in ivory with gold foil accents create a rich, tactile impression. Add silk ribbon or a wax seal in soft champagne for a luxurious finishing touch.

Why It Works: Neutrals never go out of style and pair beautifully with almost any Indianapolis wedding venue — from the Grand Hall at Union Station to the Scottish Rite Cathedral.

2. Jewel Tones: Emerald, Sapphire, and Plum

If you’re dreaming of a bold, dramatic wedding, jewel tones are the perfect fall palette. These rich shades feel regal and elevated while still embracing the season.

Stationery Inspiration: Consider a velvet invitation box in deep plum, or menus die-cut in bold geometric shapes layered with emerald tones. Pairing letterpress with jewel-toned envelopes instantly elevates the look.

Why It Works: Jewel tones photograph beautifully in candlelit receptions and historic venues, making them a stunning choice for Indianapolis brides planning a luxurious, moody fall celebration.

3. Modern Autumn Warmth: Terracotta, Rust, and Burnt Orange

For couples who love modern design with a natural touch, earthy tones like terracotta and rust bring warmth and personality to a fall wedding. These colors are especially popular for bohemian-inspired celebrations or outdoor venues.

Stationery Inspiration: Die-cut menus in terracotta hues tied with a silk ribbon are a favorite choice among my couples. Invitations with bold typography in rust ink on handmade paper make a modern yet organic statement.

Why It Works: These tones pair beautifully with Indianapolis’ outdoor venues or barn-style weddings while still feeling refined when elevated with luxury materials.

4. Romantic Autumn Elegance: Burgundy, Blush, and Rose Gold

This palette is perfect for couples who love a balance of rich seasonal color and romantic softness. Deep burgundy tones pair effortlessly with pale blush and rose gold for a palette that feels both timeless and romantic.

Stationery Inspiration: Think blush letterpress invitations with burgundy envelopes and rose gold foil details. Menus sealed with a rose gold wax stamp add the kind of luxury touch that guests will remember.

Why It Works: This palette bridges the gap between fall and winter weddings beautifully, making it a versatile choice for Indianapolis couples planning late-season celebrations.

5. Moody Neutrals: Charcoal, Forest Green, and Ivory

For brides who want something understated yet dramatic, moody neutrals are an elegant choice. Shades like charcoal gray and forest green feel sophisticated while staying seasonally appropriate.

Stationery Inspiration: Invitations printed on soft cotton paper in charcoal letterpress paired with ivory envelopes and silk ribbon. Add an envelope liner in forest green botanical artwork for an unexpected touch.

Why It Works: This palette works beautifully in both modern and historic venues — perfect for downtown Indianapolis weddings where architecture sets the stage for an elegant evening.

If you’re newly engaged and starting to plan your 2025 wedding, one of the first items on your stationery checklist will be your Save the Dates.

These small cards play a big role — they officially announce your wedding date and give guests the heads-up they need to plan time off, book travel, and mark their calendars.

They’re often the first glimpse your loved ones will get of your wedding style, setting the tone for everything that follows — from your invitations to your wedding day itself. But just like every other part of your planning process, timing matters. Sending your Save the Dates at the right time can make all the difference in how smoothly things go.

When to Send Save the Dates

For most weddings, you’ll want to mail your Save the Dates 6 to 12 months before the big day.
  • 6–8 months is perfect for local or smaller weddings where most guests live nearby.
  • 9–12 months is best for destination weddings or celebrations with lots of out-of-town guests who’ll need time to make travel arrangements.
If your wedding falls on a holiday weekend or during peak travel months, aim closer to the 12-month mark — it’s always better to give guests extra notice than not enough.

Why Timing Matters More Than Ever

While the USPS works hard to keep mail moving, delivery times can still be unpredictable, especially during the holiday season or busy mailing periods. Save the Dates can sometimes take several weeks to reach guests, depending on where they live. That’s why it’s smart to build in a little extra time when planning your stationery schedule.

It’s also important to consider local events that may overlap with your wedding weekend. For instance, May in Indianapolis is famously busy because of the Indy 500 — hotels book up fast, and rates rise quickly. If your wedding falls near a major local event, sending Save the Dates early helps your guests secure accommodations before things fill up.

A Little Extra Advice

Once your Save the Dates are in the mail, you can breathe a little easier knowing your guests have your date on their calendars. From there, you can start focusing on your invitation suite design and other paper details that bring your wedding vision to life.

Get help from the pro!
If you’re not sure when to order or how to time your stationery pieces, I’m always happy to help you build a custom timeline that fits your season, guest list, and mailing needs.

In short: Send your Save the Dates 6–12 months before your wedding, and don’t be afraid to send them early if guests will be traveling or your area hosts major events. A thoughtful timeline now will save you — and your guests — from any last-minute stress later.

A Celebration of Love in Cincinnati
Rachel and Brendan’s wedding at The Spot on West Fifth was a perfect blend of industrial charm and romantic elegance. From lush floral arrangements to timeless stationery, every detail was thoughtfully designed to reflect their personalities and love story.

Custom Wedding Invitations
The couple’s wedding invitations set the tone for their celebration of love. The suite featured an ivory shimmer tri-fold pocket folder, with cotton paper inserts printed in a mix of Gold Foil and Navy flat printing.
A delicate blush pink silk ribbon held the folder closed, accented with an Antique Gold monogram wax seal — a refined detail that elevated the invitation into a keepsake. These invitations were more than just paper; they were a preview of the elegance guests would experience on the big day. They also established the couple's wedding monogram, which carried throughout all of their wedding day paperie and branding.

Flowers & Venue
Canary Floral Design created lush, romantic arrangements that softened The Spot on West Fifth’s industrial charm. Soft blush tones, soft whites, and greenery brought warmth to the exposed brick and wood floors, while the high ceilings and open layout allowed the tall floral centerpieces to shine in every corner of the space.
The venue itself, located in downtown Cincinnati, provided the perfect canvas for Rachel and Brendan’s celebration. Its flexibility allowed for personalized touches, from floral placement to beverage selections, ensuring the day felt completely their own.

Wedding Day Paper & Signs
Rachel and Brendan's custom stationery extended throughout the wedding day, creating a cohesive and polished aesthetic through their....
  • Ceremony Programs, which were classic tea-length cards with elegant typography.
  • Menus that featured the couple’s monogram in shiny Gold Foil, along with elegant fonts for their menu details.
  • Seating Chart on a traditional White PVC board, displayed on a classic wood easel.
  • Welcome Sign that featured crisp White hand-painted lettering on an Espresso stained wood board.
Each piece complemented the wedding’s color palette and style, tying together the celebration with subtle elegance and intentional design.

Capturing the Moments
Photographer Brittany Bays captured every detail with artistry and care — from the intimate moments to the joyful celebrations on the dance floor. Her images beautifully highlight the love, laughter, and elegant details that made Rachel and Brendan’s wedding so memorable.

Final Thoughts
From custom invitations to day-of stationery, Rachel and Brendan’s wedding showcases how thoughtful paper details can elevate a wedding celebration.
