Acheiving a High End Invitation on a Small Wedding Budget | Indianapolis and Carmel Wedding Invitation & Laser Cutting Shop

A question we are asked quite frequently by our brides is: "I don't want to sacrifice the pretty details, but my budget isn't unlimited - how do I still get a gorgeous invitation on a small wedding budget?"

We're here to reassure you that it IS possible to do so!

Below are some beautiful ways to achieve a more high end wedding invitation style, without breaking your wedding stationery budget.

1. Beautiful Paper

To achieve this, we recommend working with a custom stationery designer, and skipping the plain-Jane wedding invitation shop - you know the one, they carry big albums of cookie cutter invitations, with minimal options for customization and a ridiculously high order minimum. Don't do it.

By working with a seasoned and knowledgeable custom stationery shop, you will have an endless variety of paper swatch books to look through. Here at Interprintations, we like for our clients to see and feel all paper options available to them. By selecting a high end shimmer invitation paper, or perhaps a letterpress-like thick cotton paper, you are able to take your overall invitation suite to a higher quality (with only a small dollar amount increase).

2. Vellum Details

There's just something about vellum paper that adds a delicate and luxurious look to wedding invitation suites. We see it used most often as a wrap around "belly band" to hold stacked invitation pieces together, as well as a gatefold to surround the invitation card. Although, those are simply the most popular methods of using vellum in a wedding invitation suite - the possibilities are pretty endless, especially when you’re working with a custom stationer and they can propose new and never-before-seen ideas!

A big plus, vellum is incredibly affordable and easy to print on! We wedding invitation designers love it wholeheartedly, and hope this wedding stationery trend sticks around for quite a while.

3. Envelope Liners

When you open up a wedding invitation, one of the first details you notice is the interior of the envelope. Why not dress it up with a custom monogram, hand painted florals, or something else that’s beautiful and unexpected? This is a great spot to “wow” your guests, as they open your wedding invitation. Since this is something that is easily printed, cut and assembled in-house here in our stationery shop, these are incredibly affordable!

Another perk of having an envelope liner is that it will add another layer of protection to your wedding invitation, as it makes it’s way through the mail. USPS can be SO rough on wedding invitations, this easy addition will help ensure your wedding invitation arrives to guests in good condition.

3. Wax Seals

These little pretties are much more cost effective than you think! We work with a wholesaler that provides these to us already stamped and ready to go. They have adhesive on the back and are ready for fast assembly. If you want to keep things REALLY cost effective, we can simply deliver the unassembled wax seals with your invitation order and leave the actual wax seal assembly to you. You just peel the backing and stick in the designated spot. Super easy for you AND your budget!

...and if the thought of assembling them makes you nervous, not a problem. We can take care of it on our end. We promise, it's still easy on your wedding stationery budget!

If you're thinking of using them on wedding day, we recommend ordering them all at once (you'll receive bulk pricing & save on shipping fees). They are a great addition to ceremony programs, seating cards, and menus, too!

4. Upgraded Print Methods

It’s true – gold foil, thermography, and blind embossing can be budget friendly! Here’s how to achieve these details in your wedding invitation, while still preserving your overall wedding invitation budget:

First, we can keep these upgraded print methods to a small scale. With a gold foil monogram crest at the top of your invitation, or a simple blind embossed pattern at the bottom of your invitation, we are keeping the custom die plates to a smaller size & keeping costs down. Genius, right?

Second, find a custom wedding invitation studio that can do these high end print methods in-house. This means that their overhead is much lower, and ultimately, your costs will also go down! (*Ahem* We do gold foiling and other luxury print methods here at the studio, and can totally help you with something luxurious & affordable!)

We hope these tips have been helpful! If you need any additional advice or would like to start custom designing your wedding invitations, we'd love to chat! You can email us at hello@interprintations.com to set up your complimentary bridal consultation. While we are based in the Indianapolis and Carmel areas, we work with numerous clients remotely....so if you're not local, no worries! We're happy to walk you through the process & make the custom design experience a beautiful and seamless one.

Happy wedding planning!
