The Case for Save-the-Dates
Posted on November 9, 2016 by Cari
A lot of clients will ask me, "What's your opinion on save-the-dates? Are they really necessary?" I say absolutely!

Twenty years ago, weddings were typically nothing over the top. They pretty much consisted of a family-made buffet line, cake and punch in a local hall or church basement. Today, a standard wedding usually involves a caterer, florist, rented venue, formal wear, and much more - leading to months (if not a couple of years) of intense planning. So if you do them right, save-the-dates can be a key tool during that planning process. Here are a few things to consider...

Your out-of-town guests will be more likely to attend.

Even if it's a simple postcard, your guests will be so appreciative of the advance notice. Be sure to include a wedding website on your save-the-date - it serves as a great "go to" for wedding and travel info. If you are expecting a large amount of out-of-town guests, be sure to also arrange a hotel room block & have that information listed on your website.

You can answer a thousand questions at once.

While they mean well, all of the questions from friends & family about wedding details can be daunting. Instead of everyone asking you "Have you set a date?" or "Have you picked a venue?" every other day, get the word out quickly with a save-the-date.

Those engagement photos can be put to good use.

You know those gorgeous photos your amazing photographer just sent you? Show them off! Have your stationer put together a pretty photo save-the-date card to send to all of your guests. Can't decide on just one photo? Make it double-sided and use a few of your favorites!

It will force you to finalize your wedding colors and style.

That's one more thing you can check off your list! Not only that, but once this decision is made, all of the others tumble down like dominos. You can now start your idea board and make selections for flowers, bridesmaid dresses, table decor, and more.

Another thing we stress to clients is this - while it's great to get creative with your save-the-dates, you also want to keep it stress-free & enjoy these earlier months of the wedding planning process. Don't stress yourself out by trying to keep everything "picture perfect." Try to save the most valued details on your "must have" list for the invitations and wedding day paperie. =)

Happy Planning,
